Conservative Books (and Others)
I watch CSPAN. Yes, I proudly admit I am a fan of the network.
Today one of the segments was about books for conservatives. I thought I would provide my ever growing list of recommended books. Basically, the books are philosophical, historical, classics, and fiction. I took a liberty and included political columnists.
You will see the strong influence of President Reagan, Barry Goldwater, George Will, William Buckley, and Margaret Thatcher. All of these leading conservatives were on stage when I came of age as a conservative, and all had a tremendous impact on me. When I came of age, liberalism was still in vogue. All five spoke eloquently about freedom and individualism. These people spoke about the importance of being conservative and the values embodied of this philosophy. President Reagan, Senator Goldwater and Prime Minister Thatcher also led by example and by governing.
A special note about Newt Gingrich. He was elected in 1978. He started immediately saying the GOP could win the U.S. House. He had a plan and he worked it. Many republicans (me included) thought it was very unlikely that the GOP would ever win the House again, happily Speaker Gingrich proved me wrong.
